SEMA 2017: Roadster Shop Debuts Off-Road Chassis Paired With DOHC LS

We recently took you behind the scenes of Mercury Racing‘s new LS7-based, dual over head cam, 7.0-liter engine reveal, and if you were wondering when you’d see it in an actual chassis, that time is now. While wandering around SEMA, we discovered that not only was there an SB4 7.0 (the aforementioned Mercury engine) in a chassis, it was actually mounted in one of the Roadster Shop‘s newest offerings, the ’66-’77 Ford Bronco chassis.

Mercury Racing and Roadster Shop announced their partnership at this year’s SEMA Show, bringing an additional touch of custom to the shop’s already insane builds. While it’s yet to be seen just which builds the SB4 will find its way into, we have this Roadster Shop Bronco chassis to give us a taste of what is to come.

But this isn’t just any Bronco, either. In true Roadster Shop fashion, this particular chassis is equipped with the Roadster Shop’s custom independent front suspension. On top of that, it has been fit with huge external-reservoir Fox Factory Series 2.5-inch twin tube bypass shocks controlling a twin A-arm suspension up front and a triangulated trailing arm setup out back. A set of dual rate springs improves the chassis ride quality and performance while the rest of the suspension allows for 12 inches of travel up front and 13 inches out back.

It was also on display with 934 CV joints and 300mm axle shafts capable of taking up to 850 lb-ft of torque. The chassis will be available with either LS or Coyote engine mounts, though this one was obviously equipped with the Mercury Racing LS variant.

And if you’re not a Ford guy, but want an SB4 in a more rugged platform, the Roadster Shop also announced that it will be offering new chassis for the 1969-’91 Blazer, 1983-’16 90/Defender, Jeep CJ-7, and other custom off-road applications. We can’t wait to see some off-road builds on the Roadster Shop chassis, and maybe rocking an SB4–heck, we might even need to build one ourselves.
