2011 LSX Challenge Series Rules Released

As we mentioned last month, the LSX Shootout has been expanded for 2011 to a series-within-a-series at three select NMCA events, plus a round at the Holley LS Fest. The GM Performance Parts LSX Challenge Series features five different competition classes plus a championship points system, making 2011 an exciting year for late-model GM drag racing fans.

  • NMCA Florida – Bradenton Motorsports Park – Bradenton, Florida – March 18-20
  • NMRA/NMCA Georgia – Atlanta, Dragway – Commerce, Georgia – April 14-17
  • Holley LS Fest – Beech Bend Raceway – Bowling Green, Kentucky – September 9-11
  • NMCA Indiana / LSX Shootout – O’Reilly Raceway Park – Indianapolis, Indiana – October 6-9

“But what,” you ask, “are the rules like?” Well, to help you decide where your car fits in, here’s a brief look at the classes:

LSX Drag Radial

This is a single Power Adder Shootout class developed for LS powered, GM bodied cars or trucks. All races are on a .400 Pro Tree and in a heads up format. This will be an ALL RUN qualifying format. Vehicles are required to be stock appearing and stock bodied. All vehicles MUST pass NHRA/IHRA safety inspection for ET and speed. A Sportsman ladder will determine running order.
Vehicles may be towed to the staging lanes and from the scales.

Racers can run superchargers with inlets as big as 5.25 inches, single turbos up to 118mm, duals to 88mm, or as many stages of nitrous as you dare to throw at it. Run it all through a 315 drag radial, and you’re good to go…

LSX All Motor

This is a naturally aspirated heads-up shoot-out style drag racing class. Developed for naturally aspirated LS small block GM powered and bodied cars and trucks.
Vehicles must be driven to staging and to scales, can be towed after scales.

Engines as big as 470 cubic inches are allowed, full interiors are required, and it all gets done on tires with a measured maximum of 10.75 x 30.5 inches.

LSX Real Street

This one’s still cooking, but the general idea is a “real world” single power adder class, so look for small tires, no wheelie bars, and some of the fastest streetable LS cars in the country.

LSX Rumble (Index)

This is an index style drag racing class designed to attract most all vehicles not fitting in the LSX Heads up classes. Any vehicle powered by a GM LS style power plant permitted. All races are on a .500 Pro Tree and in an index format. This will be an ALL RUN qualifying format. Vehicles are required to be stock appearing and stock bodied. All vehicles MUST pass NHRA safety inspection for ET and speed.
A Sportsman ladder will determine running order based off Saturday evenings qualifying round, closest to index without exceeding. Vehicles must be driven to staging and to scales, can be towed after scales. Delay boxes, cross-over boxes, or any “reaction-time related” electronic bracket racing aids prohibited in this class. Throttle stops and all related throttle-stop type accessories prohibited. Trans brakes permitted.
