Recently, we showed you this video of a ‘59 Pontiac at Rocky Mountain Race Week. YouTube user 1320video is at it again with another video from this year’s competition. And this time, it’s with 18 year old Alex Taylor and her twin turbo 6.0 liter V8 swapped 1968 Camaro. In the video, Taylor explains that the last time her Camaro was featured on their channel, which he mentions was 2 years ago at Drag Week, it was powered by a naturally aspirated 5.7 liter LS1 V8 that had put down a best time of 11.819 seconds at 114.51 mph. “Um, yeah, no big deal.” as Taylor smirks. The new engine however, is a stock 6.0 liter V8 truck block which they’ve twin turbocharged using BorgWarner 66mm turbos, and uses Crower valve train components.

Taylor’s 1,000 rear-wheel horsepower Camaro also uses a pair of 245cc “Mongoose” competition cylinder heads from Air Flow Research. The cylinder heads are CNC ported cast aluminum construction and utilize titanium retainers. Air Flow Research recommends these cylinder heads any racing or pro-street applications in the use of LSX engines with a bore size of at least 4-inches or greater. Did we also mention they’re 50 state legal? That’s right, these cylinder heads have a CARB EO # that can be found on their website.

With the elevation being 5,000 feet higher at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado than her hometown track, Taylor was a bit nervous making her first initial passes. Assuming the Camaro would slow down dramatically, on day 1 of the race week at Bandimere, she was still able to make a best pass of 9.327 at 149.66 mph – talk about impressive. On day 2 at Pueblo Motorsports Park in Pueblo, Colorado – the playing field was a bit more level.. no pun intended. She ran a time of 9.22 seconds at 150.00 mph. And finally, on her 4th day of racing at Kearney Raceway Park in Kearney, Nebraska – she ran a best time of 8.997 seconds at 153.49 thus far with a 60′ of 1.398. If you ask us, we’d say that’s impressive numbers for anyone, whether you’re 18 years old or older.
