Chevrolet SS Will Cost Far Less Than Equivalent Holden Commodore

History certainly has a way of repeating itself. Think back to 2008, when we Yanks were fortunate enough to finally get our hands on the Aussie’s 6.0L powered Holden Commodore in the form of the Pontiac G8 GT. While we were all grins here in the states, the Aussies were less than pleased with the fact that the Pontiac carried a sticker price of around $10,000 less than their equivalent Commodore.

Now, according to this article from the Sydney Morning Herald, the stage is set for exact same situation to occur with the new Chevrolet SS. The current Holden VF Commodore SS-V sells for just over $55,000, while comments from folks at GM indicate that the Chevy SS will be priced somewhere between $40,000 and $45,000 – at least a $10,000 difference. But as the SMH article points out, this isn’t even an apples-to-apples comparison. The current SS-V is equipped with the 6.0L L76, while the Chevy SS will get the bigger and more powerful 6.2L LS3. To get an LS3 in a Commodore the Aussies have to step all the way up to the $66,000 HSV ClubSport. This is also based on “current” car pricing and not on the price of the new SS-V that was also just released.

We're not complaining or anything, but the Chevy SS will be well over $10,000 less than the equivalent VF Commodore SS-V it's built right next to in Australia.

We’re certainly not advocating for a higher price on the Chevy SS. We’re sure there are reasons for the price discrepancy, and we know that Australia is a very different car market from the U.S. However, it’s still crazy to think that both the Commodore and the SS are built in Australia, but the export is actually the less expensive of the two despite having superior equipment. What do you think?
