Confirmed – Z/28 Production Will Start In January 2012

[1]

Attendees at the National Chevrolet Dealer conference are usually given enough information to choke a horse, several times over. Some is good and some make you long for better days. Information released to dealers today makes a wish come true, as Chevrolet has finally officially confirmed the schedule for the start of Camaro Z/28 production.

[2]According to a Camaro5 member attending the meetings [3], production is slated to begin on New Year’s Day, 2012. That might be adjusted by a day or two, we think. Still, the so-called ‘HP Edition’ Camaro is going to leave the factory with a supercharged 6.2-liter engine sitting under its significantly restyled hood.

That hood, apparently, will have some louvers or slats, as have been spotted in previous spy photos. Deep underneath all the shiny bits, the Z/28 will manage its roadholding manners with a magnetic ride suspension, as seen in the Cadillac CTS-V.

Both handling and stance will be based on 285 section width tires in front and 330 mm wide rollers out back. Minor interior changes are likely, as well. These details should be pretty solid, as you can bet that this is information that GM wanted you to know.

Now, the real speculation can begin…
