Few racetracks in America have the history or story that Sebring International Raceway does. First opened to the public in 1950, Sebring has hosted some of the world’s greatest racers on its unique 3.7 mile track. Corvettes have been racing at Sebring since 1956, taking part in many historical races including the 12 Hours of Sebring, considered one of three “Triple Crown” racing series.
This week, Sebring officials welcomed into their storied Hall of Fame the Chevy Corvette, an incredible honor, and if you ask us, a long overdue one. Corvetteblogger [2] reports that this great honor is cause for celebration in the Corvette community.
Indeed, the Corvette has won 7 12 Hours of Sebring races, and a total of 231 Corvettes have run in the historic endurance race. Corvette is the winngest racer at the American Le Mans Series 12 Hours of Sebring, which alone would have been enough to warrant an entry into the Hall of Fame.
But the Corvette has a long history with Sebring, and this weekend they proved that they still have what it takes to compete at this high level of motorsports. Corvette Racing took home 2nd and 3rd place at the 12 Hours of Sebring this past weekend, putting themselves into a prime spot for making a run at the championship this season. They’ve earned that spot in the Hall of Fame, that’s for sure.
