Custom ‘63 Corvette With Mid-Mounted 1,000 HP Motor For Sale

[1]Since the 1970’s, the automotive media has perpetuated the myth that one day, GM would create a Corvette with a mid-mounted engine. 40 years later, and the Corvette is (and will continue to be) a front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports coupe that defines affordable American horsepower. Even so, we don’t expect the rumors or wishing for a mid-engine Corvette to subside any time soon.

And after seeing this wicked ‘63 split-window Corvette with a mid-mounted, 1,000 horsepower twin-turbo V8 engine, we can sort of understand the appeal of such a vehicle. This particular beast is being sold through Barrett-Jackson [2] at their annual Palm Beach auction next month.

With a widened body, flared fenders, and a unique look that just screams “CUSTOM!”, this one of a kind Corvette has won all sorts of awards, including the GM Design Award. The “V7” as its called is loaded with modern equipment and classic charm, like “suislide” doors and Cobra racing seats.

But the heart of this beast is the 1,000 horsepower twin-turbo LSx engine that launches this spaceship-Corvette to 60 mph in under 3 seconds! Though it has just a 4-speed manual transmission, they aren’t kidding when they say that this truly is “the best of the best” when it comes to collectible Corvettes.
