Wednesday Rewind: EFILive Brings Tuning And The DIY Enthusiast Together For More Power

EFI has been around for a while now and we’re starting to see more and more converts who are either swapping EFI units onto their engines or swapping out entire engines for more late-model, EFI equipped species.

Many of the OEM-based controllers are carried over with those engines and they are quite capable of controlling even the highly-modified engines we desire. Once only the realm of pocket protector types and rocket scientists, companies like EFILive have made it more accessible for mere mortals to be able to tune their EFI-equipped rides.

…what they should be doing is spending some time driving the car around and get the drive-ability correct. After that, tuning for WOT is much easier. – Dave Emmanuel, Digital EFI

This story takes a look at some of the benefits that an enthusiast can gain from doing some tuning on their car and lays the foundation for an enthusiast to tweak their car to their liking. We spoke with Digital EFI representative Dave Emmanuel about that process and he explained it best. “Many folks want to get their car up and running with a tune and then head directly to the dyno. In fact, what they should be doing is spending some time driving the car around and get the drive-ability correct. After that, tuning for WOT is much easier.”

The FlashScan V2 can be used as a go-between for your laptop or used individually as a tuning tool.

Whether you’re making changes to the factory-installed engine or swapping a late-model engine into an earlier chassis, fine tuning your ECU has benefits that go far beyond peak horsepower and torque numbers. If you like driving your car, it can help sort out any issues with the car’s current state of tune to help you enjoy driving your car even more. Check out this story and we think you’ll agree how delving into the EFI world isn’t quite so scary as it was when all those pocket protectors were mandatory.
