When you hear the word Flowmaster, most would tend to think about throaty exhaust notes and setting off car alarms at the blip of the throttle. But lately, Flowmaster has been steadily making progress in other areas as well. Take for example the recent release of their Delta Boost Module that plugs into Ford EcoBoost equipped vehicles and, well, ups the boost—resulting in more ponies. And now they’ve just announced that they have developed an cold air intake for the 2016-17 Camaro SS that they are calling the Delta Force.

Naturally, Flowmaster is known the world over for their quality exhaust components, but we wondered why the move to intakes. In order to get to the bottom of that question, we reached out to Dale Dotson, V.P. of marketing at Driven Performance Brands—the parent company of Flowmaster—to find out.

“Flowmaster has always been a performance-oriented company and has consistently offered ‘state of the art’ exhaust products with leading edge technology,” Dotson said. “It’s no secret that moving more air and fuel into and out of an engine is the key to maximizing an engine’s power. Since we already have the exhaust side of the equation covered, the most logical product expansion would be addressing how to get more air into the engine. The factory air filter assemblies have restrictions, such as built-in silencers, tight and reduced bends, disposable cheap paper elements etc., so improving upon those limitations by offering less restrictive air intake designs just makes sense, especially when matching them with our proven cat-back exhaust systems to maximize the engines power and efficiency.”

And it turns out, it wasn’t just an idea from the guys at Flowmaster to bring the intakes to market either. Customers have been clamoring for the right intake to pair with their exhaust for years. Naturally, Flowmaster took note and is now bringing the people what they want.

“For years, our sales staff has received requests from customers asking if and when Flowmaster would be producing intakes to pair with our exhaust systems,” said Matt Kehoe, a digital media manager for Driven. “It really makes a lot of sense. Now we have the ability to offer multiple performance products that were designed to work together and provide proven results. We feel like this is going to be a huge benefit to our customers.”

So, what exactly are those benefits? Kehoe tells us that gains will vary from application to application but, on average, they are seeing gains of right around 17 horsepower and 18 lb-ft of torque over the stock 2016 Camaro SS intake. Not too shabby for an intake that takes, at the most, 20 minutes to bolt on. The intake doesn’t even require tuning. And you can expect even more power when paired with a Flowmaster cat-back exhaust system.

As of right now, however, the Delta Force intake for the 2016-17 Camaro SS is only 49-state legal, leaving Californian residents like ourselves out of luck. But don’t fret just yet if you live in the sunshine state, Kehoe says they are working to expend the program in the future and bring the intake to the west coast.

According to Kehoe, Flowmaster is also working quickly to develop cold air intakes for many of our beloved LS and LT powered vehicles as well, which should begin releasing over the next few months.

“Flowmaster Delta Force Cold Air Intakes will begin shipping in May and the initial release will cover late model Jeep Wranglers, Dodge Challengers and Chargers as well as Ram trucks,” Kehoe said. “We plan on following those up with several additional applications each month throughout the remainder of the year. Delta Force cold air intakes for the sixth-gen Camaro SS, 2.0L I4 turbo and the fifth-gen Camaro LT and LS are scheduled for release in early June. We should also have systems available for the ’10-’15 Camaro SS and ’16-’17 LS and LT on the market sometime in July. On top of that, we have Delta Force cold air intakes on the way for GM 1500 series trucks and SUVs, GM 2500 series trucks, Toyota Tundras, Ford Mustangs, F-150s, the list goes on. We’re keeping busy, that’s for sure.”

“Keeping busy” seems to be an understatement when it comes to Flowmaster and the Driven Performance Brands in general. Over the last year, they have release 50+ products, expanding their already formidable line up of products. We can’t wait to get our hands on the new Flowmaster Delta Force cold air intake and pair it with one of their Outlaw cat-backs to see what kind of power this dynamic duo can really make.
