Forgeline: Building The Perfect Beast Around A Set Of GA3C Wheels

forgelinecamaro04When you’ve forged your reputation on high quality, strong, and durable products focused on all-out performance, how better to put that philosophy to the test than to build your own car? Forgeline Motorsports aims to do just that, and its canvas is a 1970 Camaro that is being built around the GA3C concave wheel.

forgelinecamaro06The GA3C steals its great looks from the successful GA1R monoblock wheel, but combines the looks into a three-piece, modular construction with a concave center profile. The GA3C locates the pad inboard of the outer rim, achieving a depth to it that complements its modern musclecar appeal. Forgeline builds these wheels with ARP fasteners in either exposed through-bolt or hidden bolts.

While the wheel is available in just about any color or finish, we’re anxious to see both car and wheel together, and to see this Camaro out running at the track. It’s going to be an interesting build, with so many competitive cars running with Forgeline wheels, Forgeline is tapping those industry pros for some of the best handling components found at the track.

“We’ve been dreaming about building our own world class, Pro-touring machine for several years,” said Forgeline President Dave Schardt. “But now, this year, it’s our turn to participate.” What that means is that many of the components found on cars wearing Forgeline wheels will now make it to this 1970 Camaro.

forgelinecamaro02A Detroit Speed subframe and tubular control arms will work together with the Quadralink rear suspension and roll bars, while a full floating rearend will help keep things glued to the pavement. That’s going to be aided by a set of triple-adjustable coilover shocks and TigerCage from Ridetech.

Pushing power to the rear wheels will be a Lingenfelter Z06-sourced LT4, backed by a Bowler Transmissions modified Tremec T-56. Inside, the front office will be treated to Recaro seats, cool air from Vintage Air, and cool sounds from California Custom Sounds.

Smitty’s Custom Automotive will put its skills to the Camaro, taking direction from Schardt on the build. The expected debut of the Forgeline Camaro is at the new 2016 Cars & Cones Road Trip event beginning in Concord, North Carolina, May 2-6. Visit the Forgeline website and Facebook page for more information, and to follow the build.
