GM Posts Video of The Cadillac ATS in Action

[1]

Just days after AutoBlog [2] posted spy pics of the forthcoming Cadillac ATS sport coupe, GM has now posted a fresh video [3] to their media site, where GM North America President Mark Ruess gives us a few more tidbits to fuel the rumor mill surrounding this car.

It has been reported [4] that the ATS is aimed at taking on the likes of the Acura TL, Mercedes C-Class, and BMW 3-Series, and will ride on a newly developed platform known as the “Alpha”. Most importantly of interest to LSX fans is that it has been rumored that the Alpha platform will be what a smaller, lighter 6th Gen Camaro could be based on.

Of course during GM’s video test drive of the ATS, we never really get a good look at the car – which is fine, because we have all of AutoBlog’s pictures to scrutinize. But much more important than what the car looks like are the comments we hear directly from Mark Ruess in the video. Ruess says, “You know, Cadillac shouldn’t just be about big V8’s, and supercharged motors. Cadillac needs to lead the sophistication and the technology from powertrain to quietness, with a high technology, with a new technology. ”

Well, it seems pretty clear from Ruess’s comments that the ATS won’t be sporting a big V8 under the hood. Let’s just hope that if the 6th Gen Camaro does share the same platform as the ATS, they will at least keep it as it should be: rear-wheel drive with a thumping V8.
