With all the hubbub and speculation surrounding the C7 ZR1, we haven’t really seen much of a roadster convertible version. Until now.
Autoblog bring us the story.
Why Chevy ditched the roadster nomenclature is a mystery to us as it is steeped in Corvette folklore and history. In the meantime, we’ll just leave that there and stay on topic now that we’ve got that off our chest…
Aaaaand, we’re back.
We’ve speculated the ZR1 will be to the Z06 what the 1LE is to the Zl1 Camaro. That’s our story and we’re sticking to it.
We’re also sticking to our guns regarding what will be under the hood of said ZR1. Big displacement superchargers–2600 cc or larger–are all the rage and a natural progression from the Z06’s little pancake blower. Look for 700hp or more as Chevy’s grudge-y counterpoint to the Challenger Hellcat.
Then there’s the wing issueWe’ve seen two versions, a tall, hanging laundry version and a mellower smaller version seen here in these pics. What roof option you choose most likely dictate what your spoiler options are, but nothing is etched in stone yet.
Recent pics of the front clip from A-pillar forward is now mostly bare, with the exception of some curly cue Saran wrap that shows a triple inlet front bumper cover that promises to vanquish the Z06’s cooling issues forever.
While we dig these spy shots from Autoblog, they don’t reveal anything groundbreaking. This is evidence that pretty much “locks in” the ZR1’s availability in topless guise and adds another piece to the puzzle.
Rumors swirled at the beginning of the year that the ZR1 would debut sometime this summer at a racing event so we’re darn close to the debut of this long awaited version of the C7 Corvette. Stay tuned for more up-to-date information.
