Finding new ways to generate power makes for impressive times at the track, and an equally impressive pile of broken parts in your shop if things go terribly wrong. To assist in keeping the engine carnage to a minimum, aftermarket companies will listen to their customers for ideas on how to improve products. Isky Racing Cams tuned into what the lifter market needed and created their HPx EZ Roll series of hydraulic lifters to help those in the LSX market make big, reliable power.
According to Isky Racing’s Nolan Jamora, the idea for the HPx lifters was born in the LSX engine market. “We had a lot of racers and engine builders that were looking for an LS1 lifter solution. The lifters were failing because they would bleed down and go into a float, or the needles would fail at higher rpm. They needed a stronger lifter and that’s where we decided to re-engineer the EZ lifter to fit their hydraulic lifter needs.”
The HPx lifters were designed to mitigate the issue of lifters bleeding down and not holding up. Isky also added a different high-flow valve system inside the lifter to keep things lubricated better. “The unique piston inside the lifter helps when you have a fast-accelerating camshaft or one that goes to higher rpm. This piston helps control the flow better than a normal lifter and keeps it from failing. These lifters also don’t flex because of the material we use. There’s even oiling tubes on both sides of the lifter that flow down to the bearing to provide great lubrication,” Jamora explains.
If you’re looking for a stout hydraulic lifter for your LSX, SBC, BBF, or SBF-based engine you can head over to Isky’s website and check out the HPx series of hydraulic roller lifters.
