Corvette Racing driver Jan Magnussen, who has a busy American LeMans racing schedule, will also get some track time in the Camaro Cup, a support series for the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship. The Camaro Cup has had an on-again, off-again history in Sweden that dates back to 1975.
More recently, the series has become popular with fields reaching to twenty cars. Based in Sweden, the series the series participants have wandered as far as Norway for special races. There are currently six event dates on the Camaro Cup schedule in Sweden.
“I have a hard time saying no to a race car and as STCC is in somewhat of a transition year, I accepted the offer to drive Camaro for Fukamuni Racing,” said Magnussen. The Dane will team up with Martin Hansen in the team Fukamuni Racing, who fielded a BMW 320si in the DTC last year.
“It is going to be great fun as I am in the team with my old friends Mikkel and Søren. I am excited to get going,” said Magnussen.
Magnussen will miss the second race of the season due to a schedule conflict with his Grand Am Rolex Series commitments.
Magnussen and Oliver Gavin continue this year in the #4 Compuware Corvette C6.R. For the season’s three ALMS long-distance events, Sebring, Le Mans, and Petit Le Mans, they will be joined by Richard Westbrook as third driver in those events.
Magnussen’s next North American event is the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in Sebring, Florida, on Saturday, March 19. The season-opening 12-hour race will be shown live on ESPN3 and AmericanLeMans.com starting at 10 a.m. ET. ABC will televise race highlights from 12:30 to 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 20.
