Rick Hendrick Picks Up First ZL1 Right Off Oshwa Assembly Line

Being the owner of one of the most dominant NASCAR teams in history seems to have more than a few perks. For one, it gives you the means to buy just about any car you could ever possibly want, and two, it gets you invites to events that the rest of us can only dream about attending. Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports was recently invited to the GM Oshawa Assembly Plant [3] to celebrate the beginning of the regular production of the most powerful Camaro in history with other GM dignitaries.

Hendrick landed the 5th Gen Camaro trifecta as he became the first person to own each of the V8 models; the 2010 Camaro SS Coupe, 2011 Camaro SS Convertible [4], and now the fabled 2012 Camaro ZL1. As you will remember from the story we brought you back in September [5], Hendrick won the purchase rights to the very first production ZL1 at Barrett-Jackson with a high bid of $250,000, with all the proceeds generously going to charity. The first retail production ZL1 is the only 2012 that will be a painted Carbon Flash Metallic, and features the exposed carbon fiber hood insert and a sun roof.

“As a Chevy enthusiast, it’s an honor to spend time at such an impressive facility and meet the people who produce some of world’s most incredible high-performance cars. They’ve raised the bar again with the new Camaro ZL1, and I’m excited to be back in Oshawa to experience it firsthand.” Hendrick said of the event.
