SS Nabs A Spot On Fastest Speeding Tickets Of 2017 List

There’s nothing like speeding down the highway with your windows open or your top down. You’ve probably seen a bunch of different sports cars screaming down the road, powered by the biggest and best engines that we’ve ever seen — but none of them have managed to grab the title of “Fastest Speeding Ticket of 2017.” So, which car has snagged that title? Read on to find out.

Houston’s Wall of Shame

Every year, the Houston Chronicle pulls together a list of the fastest speeding tickets that were issued during the previous year.

Years past have seen some pretty amazing contenders — 2016’s top ticket was awarded (if that’s the right word) to a Suzuki Motorcycle driver who was driving a whopping 209 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone. 2015 saw a tie between a 2014 Dodge and, of all things, a 1996 Infiniti, both of which were clocked going 132 miles per hour in a 60 and 75 mph zone, respectively.

But who has managed to snag the top position on the wall of shame for 2017?

The Winner is….A Motorcycle?

Okay, okay — the top two tickets for 2017 actually belong to motorcycles. The top ticket went to a 2012 Honda CBR motorcycle which was clocked doing 181 in a 75-mph zone. Second place went to a Suzuki motorcycle that was clocked doing 160 in a 75.

We’re not here to talk about motorcycles though, so let’s ignore them and skip to the next two tickets on the list.

The Fastest Speeding Tickets

When we’re talking cars, the highest speed clocked was 160 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone. A 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 took that title home — which may or may not be surprising. What is surprising is the next car on the list.

A Chevy SS.

Yes, you read that right. A 2014 Chevy SS took the fourth fastest ticket for all of 2017 — clocked at 156 miles per hour in 70 mile per hour zone! While the 2014 SS’s top speed is rated at 160mph, it’s not generally recommended to drive it that fast!

Now, we’re aware that the 430-horsepower LS3 and magnetic ride control may make it hard to judge how fast you’re going without looking at the speedo, but almost hitting the car’s top speed seems excessive. We’re dying to know if the car was modified or not, so if you know anything about the list’s runner up, let us know. Either way, that SS was hauling more than just groceries.

While it may seem like an awesome achievement to make it into the Houston Chronicle’s yearly list, there is one thing that you need to keep in mind — your car insurance. A ticket like the ones we’ve listed above will cause your car insurance rate to climb substantially and will likely leave points on your license that will make it impossible to switch insurance companies to get a lower rate.

If it’s worth your 15 minutes of fame, feel free try to pick up one of these tickets but we don’t recommend it — it’s costly, in more ways than one, and it could even put you or others in danger. Be safe on the road, no matter how much you want to max out that speedometer.
