In Australia, Easter Car Mania, an automotive event that gives car enthusiasts an opportunity to do some skids, drags, and cruising, recently took place at Winton Motor Raceway.
One of the highlights of the event, per Fullboost, was this insane LS3-powered ute, cleverly named GHETTO by its owner, Shane. Shane’s Holden VS Ute isn’t your average Ute, though. His Ute was practically built to hoon, and we like it. In fact, Shane took home first place in the burnout competition at Easter Car Mania and second place in the powerskid competition.
Under the hood of the Ute sits a rebuilt LS3 engine equipped with a Holley Tunnel Ram intake manifold and twin 1,000cc throttle bodies. The engine still utilizes the stock bottom end, underdrive. Power makes its way to the BorgWarner rear differential through a TH400 transmission matched up with a 4,200 stall converter. The rearend gears are 3.45:1 and the axles are extra tough 31-spline billet upgrades. When all is said and done, the rebuilt LS3 puts 476 horsepower to the rear wheels – more than enough to have fun out on the track.
As we were watching the part of the video where the burnout contest takes place, we couldn’t help but cringe whenever Shane got his ute a little too close to the wall. It was also kind of funny to see the in-car footage of him stabbing the gas pedal repeatedly to keep the engine off the limiter completely, but still keeps revs high. It’s a shame we don’t have events like this in Southern California. The closest we can get to a tire-smoking hoon-fest is Formula Drift, but that’s only twice a year. Bring Easter Car Mania to SoCal! And all the Commodores and Utes, too!
