Lately, there have been a lot of sightings and coverage of the soon-to-be-released 2012 Camaro ZL1. We even reported on new pictures of the ZL1 in new colors last week. As the release of the production model nears, we can only expect the sightings and coverage to increase. Thanks to the latest video from Camaro5, plus a couple new official Chevy videos, we can truly get a feel for the promised 580 horses that the ZL1 is set to pack.

The first video features an Imperial Blue ZL1 being tested at the Nurburgring track in Germany. This legendary circuit has become the gold standard for road car testing, with more than 150 turns along its near 13-mile length.

The ZL1 in the testing video can be seen cornering like a pro through the s-curves and hair-pin turns of the track. We’re crediting the new Camaro’s Magnetic Ride Control for its impressive handling. Even more exciting is the fact that you can hear the ZL1 winding up its 580 horsepower engine better than anything we’ve heard so far. If you haven’t been ogling over the most powerful Camaro to hit the market before now, this video is sure to test your impeccable self control.

Speaking of MRC, Chevy dropped a couple of new “behind the scenes” videos on the ZL1, and the first goes into the testing of the new Camaro’s suspension:

Aaron Link, Chassis Development Engineer on the ZL1, takes the car through its paces to help refine the settings on the electronically controlled dampers and power steering, saying, “If we get it right here, we get it right everywhere.” $100,000 of instrumentation in the trunk records performance and lets the engineering staff integrate all the areas of performance, from handling to acceleration and braking.

Finally, Chevy takes us inside their development of the ZL1’s launch control system that optimizes straight-line acceleration from a standstill by managing RPM to prevent excessive wheelspin.

While we can’t wait for more information and coverage of the ZL1, these videos settle it – this is the ultimate Camaro and truly the one to beat. Yes Mustang, we know you’re a powerful competitor, but we’re claiming early victory with this one.
