Saturday Notes:
LSX Shootout Qualifying Round 1:
Well, it took until just after midnight last night to get all the way through the initial round LSX Shootout qualifying, but we were in it for the long haul – to stay as long as it took to bring you all the results.
In LSX Drag Radial, the “come-back-kid” Steven Fereday managed to get his Trans Am back together after the fire he experienced in test and tune, and lay down a 7.76 at 193 MPH. But it was Andy Essary in his T/A that would churn out the quickest qualifying time in the class with a 7.53 at 189 MPH. The rest of the times for the class were pretty tight, and should make for some very interesting action in the next few rounds.
The big-cube beasties of the LSX All-Motor Class, produced a much wider spread in qualifying times. It was Joe Hunneycutt in his 444 cubic inch LSX equipped 2002 Camaro that would run the lowest ET at 8.56 at 156.9 MPH. Chris Fowler from Keller, Texas, qualified second in his 1990 Camaro running an 8.99 at 153 MPH, and points leader Judson Massingill struggled a bit, qualifying 5th after traction issues.
In the Holley EFI LSX Real Street class, points leader Paul Falcon qualified 4th, while his nearest competitor for the class championship, Adam Preston (behind by a mere 30 points), qualified first with a blistering 8.45 at 160 MPH. Jon Ebert in the Lingenfelter 5th Gen qualified 5th, with a very uncharacteristic 9.75 at 110.62 MPH.
The 5th Gen Camaro Class saw plenty of high and mid 10 second runs, with the top qualifier, Louie Filippides, in his 416 cubic inch LSX 2010 Camaro laying down a smoldering 9.5 at 148 MPH.
In the index-style LSX Rumble Class, there were 58 cars run down the track, with Greg Edwards qualifying at the top of the heap in his 2002 Camaro with the 396 LSX mill taking him to 8.69 at 162.9 MPH. Edwards nearest competition after qualifying was Nathan Echart in his LSX swapped Fox Body, running a 9.34 at 142.5 MPH.

Not all the LSX action was on the track at the LSX Shootout. Today’s Car Show brought out an impressive pack of LSX powered rides, and we decided to snap some pics of our personal favorites from among the group.
