Tonight at Chevrolet’s SEMA opening banquet, the Bow-Tie brass revealed a slew of new enthusiast vehicles, two of which were Camaro variants, the 2015 Camaro Commemorative edition and the 2015 COPO. They also announced that 2015 will be the final iteration of the fifth-gen architecture.
Out with a Bang
The 2015 Camaro Commemorative edition is designed to celebrate the 5th gen Camaro line which is on track to be America’s best-selling performance car for five consecutive years. Available on 2LT and 2SS coupes and convertibles, the package includes unique 20-inch wheels, front splitter, ZL1 rear spoiler, and Commemorative Edition fender emblems.
“We wanted to create a special edition Camaro that celebrates that success as the fifth generation comes to a close as the end of the model year,” said Todd Christensen, Camaro Marketing Manager.
Five exterior color combinations are available: Black with Cyber Gray stripe, Silver Ice Metallic with Cyber Gray stripe, Summit White with silver stripe, Ashen Gray Metallic with silver stripe and Red Hot with black stripe. SS models receive a body-color hood insert.

On the inside, the Commemorative Edition, features adrenaline red and black leather seating surfaces, adrenaline red instrument panel insert and red stitching on the seats, steering wheel, shift knob, shift boot, door trim armrest and center console lid. Also included are a flat-bottomed steering wheel and special engraved sill plates.
The COPO Continues
Alongside the commemorative edition, GM also announced that the championship-winning COPO would return for 2015. This is the fourth model year for the factory-built race car and, just as in past years, only 69 units will be produced.
The 2015 COPO display at tonight’s unveiling featured an Abalone White exterior with gray and orange accents and all-new COPO graphics. Lurking under-hood is a 350-cubic inch LSX, fed by a 2.9L Whipple supercharger. Transmission options remain the same with a 4-speed manual and 3-speed automatic.
“The COPO Camaro allows sportsman racers to compete directly in NHRA Stock Eliminator and Super Stock classes,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of performance vehicles and motorsports. “Every win advances the COPO racing legacy established 45 years ago and reinforces Chevrolet’s position today as America’s leading performance car brand.”
There will again be four engines to choose from, the 350, the 396 the 427 and a supercharged 350-inch motor. All of which will be LSX based.
In addition to the COPO chassis, Chevrolet Performance will also be offering a “rolling chassis.” This chassis features a full suspension with the same solid axle and four-link as the COPO but with no engine. While not badged as a COPO, the car is an excellent platform for the Camaro racer looking to pursue other engine options, such as DR525 sealed engine for class specific racing, or perhaps a motor of tried and true big-block-Chevy architecture.
