PRI 2016: Hooker & Flowtech Remain in the Epicenter of LS Movement

It should come as no surprise that a division of Holley offers so many cool new LS products, but, never the less, the folks at Hooker and Flowtech continue to impress. Clearly the market has matured when having one if not multiple turbo headers are a must. That is where we find ourselves, and both brands have obliged with vastly different choices.

On the Flowtech side, the approach is to offer a stainless steel header that looks like something you’d pay thousands of dollars for from a fabricator. It is a compact, 4-into-1 style designed to fit many applications. Both 1-3/4-inch and 1-7/8-inch primaries are offered. The four 16-gauge, mandrel bent tubes merge at a 3-inch, V-band collector. The head flange is 7/16-inch for a leak-free seal. Finishes include natural, black painted, ceramic coated and polished. V-band clamps are included.

“These can be mounted up and forward, down and forward, up and back. Whatever you want,” said Advertising/PR Supervisor Blane Burnett at Holley. “The polished versions are 304 stainless while the painted/coated ones are 409. They fit really well. Work really well. One of our fuel injection engineers is putting them on his Fox-body LS Mustang build he is doing.”

Meanwhile Hooker uses cast iron manifolds, similar to their standard exhaust manifolds. The idea is that cast iron is more durable and retains heat better to spool the turbo. Fitment is modeled after common LS swap applications and components. There is a 3-inch V-band outlet plus a 2.25-inch crossover connection for single turbo setups. There is even a heat shield to protect heater hoses as well as included stainless steel V-band clamps. Hooker says more components are on the way to support these manifolds such as crossover tubes and turbo inlets with a T4 flange.

For the streetcar crowd, Hooker continues to release more applications for the upmarket Blackheart line in 304 stainless steel. Gen6 Camaro as well as LS swap systems for the third-gen F-bodies, ’64 to ’67 and ’68 to ’72 GM A-body top the list. Some of the late model systems will even seamlessly integrate with the OEM dual mode exhaust valves like the C7 Corvette. “Those cars come in a lot of different packages, so we’ve been having to work through those and come up with specific kits for each one.”

Integrated with its LS swap exhaust offerings, Hooker also has a growing list of application specific engine swap mount plates and crossmembers for automatic and manual transmissions. When you add in Holley’s other components it becomes more of a one-stop shopping destination.
