SEMA 2011: You Bend Em’ PPG Mends Em’ With Their New Finishes

PPG's new Vibrance Collection gives you plenty of choices for special effects.

Regardless of why your ride needs to be repainted – damage from a wreck, faded from age, or you’re just tired of the color – PPG can help you get the unique look you’re after with their new Vibrance Collection of automotive paints. Here at SEMA 2011 we took a look the Vibrance Collection and some other cool new products from the paint experts at PPG.

The hallmark of the new Vibrance Collection is unique, eye-popping special effects, and as the name would imply, vibrant colors. The line features everything from shimmering metal flake additives, to liquid crystal effects that give your car a vivid color-shifting sparkle. The Vibrance Collection even features a full line of environmentally friendly waterborne products with low VOC.

Another cool new product is PPG’s DC2000 “Ultra-Velocity” Clear Coat. The DC2000 is unique in that it requires no flash time between coats, no baking, and can even be polished after just 25 minutes of curing. DC2000 offers just one more way to get your car in and out of the body shop faster.

This PPG painted Imperial Speedster started out as a big four-door, and was shortened by 4 feet! Also, check out the Hemi under the hood.

The car was painted over the course of five days, with about four or five painting sessions with new paint mixed each time. The paint still matches perfectly.

PPG also had this sweet 1959 Imperial Speedster on display at their SEMA booth. The car started its life as a 4-door Imperial, but was cut and sectioned into 43 pieces by Pfaff Designs to create the two door drop top you see here. It was painted using PPG’s “Imperial Champagne” waterborne finish.

Steven W. Lehner, Product Manger at PPG, told us, “The car was painted over the course of five days, with about four or five painting sessions with new paint mixed each time. The paint still matches perfectly.”

Give PPG’s website a look if your bended ride needs mended.
