Interested in exploring autocross or do you have a car that is already set up to slide around the cones? Then load up your trailer and head to the Goodguys 8th Spring Nationals at West World in Scottsdale, Arizona, on March 10-12th. The Goodguys Rod and Custom Association has renewed their partnership with The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer with the “AutoCross for Kids” program.
This partnership will kick off at the season opener in Scottsdale and will continue at select events during the event schedule. If Scottsdale is not in your travel plans check in with the Goodguys Rod and Custom website for other opportunities to take part in the fundraising efforts.
The Austin Hatcher Foundation is celebrating 10 years of providing services to children, families, and hospitals across 28 states. Through the partnership with the Goodguys Rod and Custom Association, the foundation hopes to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer. Along with raising money, this partnership will help to promote healthy lifestyles that in turn lead to cancer prevention along with providing therapies to children in need. Cancer does not just impact the patient, it affects the family, friends, and survivors of the disease.
Almost everyone knows someone who has battled cancer, but when that person is a child it is even more shocking. Through the “AutoCross for Kids,” program both parties hope to raise awareness about pediatric cancer. “We actually met Amy Jo Osborn at SEMA three-years ago,” said Betsy Bennett of Goodguys. After hearing Osborn’s story behind Austin Hatcher’s battle with pediatric cancer, Bennett knew that the Austin Hatcher Foundation would be a perfect match for the AutoCross program. When asked about the pairing, Bennett said, “It touches my soul, it is my passion.”
Based on the success of the partnership during the 2016 event season, Marc Meadors, President of the Goodguys Rod and Custom Association, considered a continuation of the program for the 2017 season. This partnership will allow Goodguys members and show attendees to make donations and participate in the “AutoCross for Kids,” program. Along with fundraising, there will be opportunities for volunteering through the program. For information about volunteering for the foundation or with”AutoCross for Kids,” please contact the Austin Hatcher Foundation directly.
Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase a ride with Pro AutoCross drivers on a special course with all proceeds benefitting the Austin Hatcher Foundation. These ride alongs will only be available on Friday and Saturdays at the specified events, but other donations will be accepted throughout the entirety of the event. Drivers provide the ride alongs in their actual competition cars. “It’s a fun, fast, crazy ride,” said Bennett. Attendees and participants will also have the opportunity to make donations where Goodguys merchandise is sold.
