Georgia Highway Patrol Adds Camaros To Fleet

It’s no secret that the Georgia State Troopers are aggressive at curtailing speeding up and down their interstate corridors. Local news agency 13WMAZ just reported that the GSP has just upped the ante by adding 2022 Chevrolet Camaros to their high-speed fleet. The first Camaro, wearing Georgia HP’s blue and gray, was issued to trooper Michael Brock from Forsyth, Georgia.

From the Georgia Department of Public Safety’s Facebook page: Our first Chevrolet Camaro patrol car was recently issued to TFC3 Justin Brock #540 from Post 44 Forsyth. Pictured with TFC3 Brock is Major Kendrick Lowe, North Adjutant, Colonel Christopher Wright, and SFC Brad Walker, Post Commander, Post 44 Forsyth.

Of course, Brock explained that the main purpose of the new cars will be to respond to street racing and “super speeders”, those unlucky souls who find their heavy right foot leading them way over the posted speed limit. The State of Georgia defines a super speeder as anyone traveling 75 mph or more on a two-lane road or 85 mph or more on any road or highway in Georgia, including highways. In addition to any fees and punishments assessed by the Court, a super speeder must pay an extra $200 fee to the state. The reason for going with the Camaro becomes clear as explained by trooper Brock, “The zero to 120 or 100 mph is way faster than the Dodge Charger, so that makes catching up to vehicles way easier.”

Inconspicuously donned with all the necessary accouterments for its intended task such as flashing lights and sirens, the car’s color will be the only giveaway that the long arm of the law resides within. And of course, the “Georgia State Patrol” emblazoned on the sides of the vehicle will let you know you could be in trouble as well. Once those lights start flashing, you’ll likely find yourself having a conversation with trooper Brock or one of his cohorts.

The Camaros will also serve as a recruiting tool for new troopers. The Georgia State Patrol hopes the new cars will welcome new recruits to the force, and be an unwelcome counter to those tearing up the state’s highways way above the posted speed limits. You’ve been warned.
