As a fact of life, some people simply have better jobs than others. Who wouldn’t want to be the host of Top Gear, or a professional race car driver? Of course, none of those jobs would be possible without the vocation of professional engine and race car builders. Building fast cars can be just as fun as driving them, and legends have been made from the right combination of wrenching and racing.

The American Drag Racing League reports that Jerry Bickel Race Cars is currently building a Camaro-based Extreme Pro Stock dragster. If it is anything like their other race cars, then the competition best look out.

Pro Stock cars are often called “factory hot rods,” though the truth is that these cars share very little in common with their production counterparts. They must meet minimum weight standards and use carbureted engines up to 500 cubic inches in size. The lightweight tube chassis is designed specifically for racing, and often the only similarity between the race car and the production car is the name on the fiberglass body. Of course, that doesn’t make us any less excited about seeing a Camaro dragster.

The car apparently has a few would-be drivers waiting in the wings. The American Drag Racing League has already approved the unfinished car for running in the Extreme Pro Stock class, which is where it will likely make its debut. It must be like witnessing the birth of a child, watching a car you just built take off down the drag strip for the first time. We can’t wait to see it either.
