Late Model Racecraft’s World Record C8 Corvette Is A Repeat Offender

With each new generation of Corvette and Camaro, there is always a race to set records on the drag strip. A handful of individuals and performance shops are repeatedly in the hunt for the quickest and fastest records with each new Corvette platform. Currently, the Corvette C8 is the car that is being pushed to the limits. Late Model Racecraft of Houston, Texas, has once again set the bar for everyone else to chase. This past weekend during the Texas Speed Syndicate Quick 30 event held at Houston Raceway Park, LMR owner Steven Fereday set and reset the world record for the quickest quarter-mile pass in a C8 Corvette.

If you’ve been keeping up with the C8 Corvette world, then you are probably aware of the hurdle that has been facing everyone trying to make big horsepower with these cars. The factory ECM is encrypted in such a way that it is not easily tuned. There have been a number of “solutions” to this issue. Most of these involve installing electronics that piggyback the factory ECU to add fuel and adjust ignition timing when applying boost.

The Fueltech FT600 is the brain behind making 1,500 horsepower in the C8 Corvette platform.

Making BIG Power With Creative Solutions

LMR’s C8 shop car is built using their LMR1500 package that will soon be offered to their customers. The package is rated at 1,500 horsepower. The heart of the build consists of twin Precision Turbo & Engineering ball-bearing turbos, an LT2 engine built by Late Model Engines, a clutch upgrade from Dodson Motorsports, and the Fueltech FT600 that has been piggybacked to the factory ECU.

The Late Model Engines built LT2 feature forged rods and pistons. LME also used one of their billet LT2 intakes that they make in-house. The intake adds port fuel injection to the mix while retaining the factory direct injection system. The custom fuel cell in the "frunk" of the C8 supplies fuel via the brushless Aeromotive pump to the port injectors when the engine is making boost.

Sounds simple enough. However, Fereday and his team at LMR have put countless hours of testing into finding a clutch that will hold together at this power level. They have also worked closely with Fueltech to develop a tested and proven system that works with the factory ECU. According to Fereday, the FT600 is essential to the LMR C8 making the level of power that it does.

Competing With Yourself

LMR’s endless pursuit of speed and power with the C8 Corvette platform has paid off. At the Q30 event, Fereday was able to pilot his C8 to a blistering 8.95-second quarter-mile at 159 miles per hour. Breaking the world record for C8 Corvettes in the process. To back it up, Fereday reset his world record on the very next pass going 8.83-seconds at 160 miles per hour.

We look forward to watching others chase this record. Only time will tell how quickly the C8 Corvette can cover the quarter mile. We’re sure Late Model Racecraft will continue to push the limits of their C8 and hopefully break their own record once again.
