Here we are again, the end of another week is getting closer. That’s right, Thursday is casting its ever-growing shadow firmly on our garage floor. In this edition of Throwback Thursday, we’ve opened the Power Automedia vault, and are taking a short hop back to November 2015, to check out: Building A Bulletproof 427 LS With Manley To Make Big Power. This week’s throwback gets-in deep to show you what’s inside this big-power LS engine.

The Manley catalog was raided to provide nearly all of the hard parts for this build; from 4.100-inch-stroke forged steel crankshaft, to 4340 forged I-beam connecting rods, to Manley’s Pro Series 2618 alloy pistons. The rotating assembly and many other parts are available to anyone — there are no high-dollar unobtainium parts in this build.

Building an engine capable of supporting big-time power under the thermal load of supercharging is a tall order. Doing so on a car that will see the road daily, only raises the stakes is how Jason Reiss started the article. He’s not kidding. It wasn’t that long ago that one horsepower-per-cubic-inch was considered big time. Now, the Big Three are delivering more than that from the factory.

In the original article, Jason outlines how the project started with an LS9 block and was filled with goodies from Manley and when assembled, created enough horsepower to quell the needs of any horsepower junkie.
