Need For Speed: Corvette Owner Wins A Turbo Then Rebuilds Car

Feras Qartoumy is no stranger when it comes to road racing. Feras started with a Pro-Touring Chevrolet Nova and quickly realized that the car’s potential wasn’t going to meet his goals. With his quest for speed, he decided to ditch the Nova and build a C6 Z06 Corvette. Last year we featured this killer looking 7.7-liter LS7 powered monster, but something happened. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Z06 was transformed to the point that we didn’t recognize the machine. While watching a Hoonigan video with Larry Chen, we stumbled across the now twin-turbocharged big cubic-inch LS engine. The ‘Vette had a wild livery before and with it removed, we didn’t catch that it was the same car until we saw Feras’ name pop up.

You might be curious to see what spawned all of these new changes to the Z06. In short, Feras won a race and, by doing so, received a Garrett turbo as his a prize for his first-place finish. However, the guys at Garrett saw the potential of the C6 and gave him a second unit for the build. If you have a killer car and two brand new turbochargers, there’s only one thing to do.

Over four long weeks, the Z06 took on quite the transformation with the help of some key people like Adam from Peitz Performance, who assisted Feras with fabricating the turbo kit. Speaking of the turbo system, have you seen a wilder display of a set of twins? Corvettes are infamous for holding in heat, and Feras wanted to address the problem. His solution was to isolate the Garrett G35-900 turbos outside the engine bay, making sure excessive heat would not be an issue. The Z06 also has dual intercoolers on each of the front corners of the car instead of in front of the radiator. His design works well too. Even on a hot day, the Corvette’s temperatures only hit 213-degrees for coolant, 230-degrees on the oil, and 140-degree intake air temperatures (IAT).

Late Model Engines (LME) was responsible for building the 430 cubic-inch power plant with a set of Brodix BR7 heads with a modest compression ratio of 9 to 1. With only 9-pounds of boost, due to an 8-pound wastegate spring, the LME engine cranks out an impressive 875 horsepower to the wheels.

Other modifications for the Z06 include a MoTec ECU, Pfitzner Performance Gearbox (PPG), Alcon brakes, APR Performance dual element wing, and a custom rear diffuser built by Mike DuSold, Owner of DuSold Designs.

If you’re wondering how this new setup is performing compared to the old one, Feras said, “We have already set three track records with this setup and some of them by four seconds.” Now think about this for a minute. Feras won a race and got upgraded parts to add to his car, making him more competitive. Is it just us, or is this story is straight out of a video game? Either way, we love it and hope to catch him doing battle on a track soon.
