Rock Out: T&D’s Rocker Arm For The Dart 10-Degree LS Drag Race Head

The evolution of the LS engine platform has allowed aftermarket companies to find new and exciting ways to extract performance and that has created a need for parts that work in unison. The Dart Race Series 10-degree LS cylinder head is for max-effort race engines that make a whole lot of horsepower and it needed a rocker arm to match its potential. T&D Machine Products answered the bell with its rocker arm set that’s specifically designed for this head and the power it can generate.

The Race Series 10-degree head changes the typical layout of the intake and exhaust valves to create as much power as possible. The splayed valve design allows for better burn in the combustion chambers for a higher level of horsepower. This also allows for other parts in the valvetrain to be maximized specifically for the use of longer valves and bigger lift camshafts.

Sheldon Miller from T&D Machine explains why it’s important to have a longer valve for a higher lift application.

“Lift and valve length go pretty much hand-in-hand. In order to have lift, you have to have a longer valve to support the spring that is required for the lift. In some instances, we do see long valve low lift but that’s pretty rare.”

T&D does their homework before any rocker arms are created and this helps them better understand exactly how to produce the best rocker arm possible. They make sure they know what will have a direct effect on the fulcrum length and offset. This includes items like the deck height of the engine, pushrod diameter, ratio of the rocker arm, lifter offset, and cam location.

“This particular head we have been doing a lot of billet 4130 rocker options, because cams are getting more and more aggressive we need the stiffest rocker possible; that is where our steel rocker dominates. We will recommend this rocker arm for anything endurance like Drag Week where the Dart head is being used. Every application has its own demands that differ from one another,” Miller explains.
