Texans linebacker Mario Williams may be out of the game for awhile due to injury, but he’s not just laying low in his down time. In fact, Williams is busy making a difference in Houston, Texas by helping the Houston Police Department (HPD) keep their streets safe. He’s not making a difference by patrolling the streets with the men and women on the police force, or even educating at-risk youth, however. No, Williams is making a difference through his donation of five fully equipped ‘11 Camaro patrol cars to the force. Thanks to the Houston Chronicle for bringing us the news.
Last Tuesday, Houston Mayor Annise Parker held a press conference with Police Chief Charles A. McClelland Jr. and the Houston Police Department to accept the Camaros and thank Williams for his generous donation. Williams was even given a humanitarian service award in honor of his donation at the event.
With his sights on a career involving law enforcement once his football career is over, Williams told the Houston Chronicle that he was happy to donate the Camaros to the HPD to help make a difference in the safety of the city.
The cars, equipped with a special “police package” will help the HPD catch speeders more easily. Decked out in white with ghost-like reflective lettering on them, all five Camaros were unveiled at the conference. While we don’t know what these specific police Camaros are capable of, they do look pretty mean and will definitely catch speeders off guard when flying up on them from behind.
