As a racer, any time you belt in and get ready to make a pass down the track there’s the potential for danger — it’s an accepted risk. For LSX Drag Radial kingpin Mike Brown things went horribly wrong on his first pass of 2015 as his ERL-powered machine had a catastrophic accident. This new video from Urban Hillbilly Videos shows how violent this crash was and how much worse this could have been.
The pass for Brown and Heath Littrell took its horrific turn at the top end past the eighth-mile, as Brown’s car makes a sudden hard right and crosses the track. In this footage you can hear just how vicious the impact with the wall is and how much damage was done to both cars and the guardrail itself. Brown was released from the hospital on Sunday and has since returned to Ohio so he can begin his road to recovery, but is said to be in good spirits.
There’s no definitive answer as to what caused the crash from the Ohio Boys Racing camp. Brown’s car was one of the most consistent and feared radial tire cars in the Midwest, winning several championships over the years. The current assessment of the damage is bleak and the car appears to be a total loss.
There is some positive news to report, though, as several of Brown’s sponsors have offered to step up and help him rebuild his operation if he decides to get behind the wheel again. We here at Dragzine wish Brown a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back at the track soon with his Ohio Boys teammates.
