Event Coverage From The Cincinnati Cavalcade of Customs

The 63rd Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts Cavalcade of Customs brought a bevy of custom cars, street rods, and rad rides to the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. This event also hosted the 2022 International Show Car Association (ISCA) finals.

Cream Of The ISCA Crop

The ISCA tour is very competitive and features some of the best builds you’ll ever see. Everyone who throws their hat into the ISCA ring has the goal of being invited to Cincinnati to have a shot at being crowned champion. Here’s a look at the 2022 ISCA category champions and overall Grand Champion.

Janice Sutherland and Les Shank’s 1966 Plymouth Satellite Restored Category Champion

The attention to detail that Janice Sutherland and Les Shank put into their 1966 Plymouth Satellite restoration is really amazing. The Satellite looks as good, if not better than when it was first purchased in 1966. This Satellite is a rare bird, only one of 283 made in 1966 with a 426 cubic-inch Hemi under the hood that’s backed by a 727 TorqueFlite transmission.

Paul Gragg 1964 Corvette Street Machine/Competition Category Champion

Paul Gragg’s 1964 Pro Street-style Corvette is a true homebuilt hot rod. The only work Gragg didn’t do on the Corvette is the machine work on the supercharged 632 cubic-inch big block Chevy that rests in between the front fenders. Now, the Dart-based big block and its massive billet 14-71 BDS blower will grab most people’s attention, it’s the other details that really speak volumes about the level of work Gragg put into the Corvette. The body of the Corvette has been stretched seven inches in the front and five inches in the rear. Gragg also removed the vent windows and shaved the door handles.

Scott and Sherrie Cooper 1970 El Camino Truck Category Champion

RelentleSS is a 1970 El Camino owned by Scott and Sherrie Cooper. The El Camino’s stock chassis was cast aside in favor of an improved unit from Art Morrison with a full coil over suspension. RelentleSS is powered by a 572 cubic-inch big block Chevy that features a Hilborn EFI system and is backed by a TREMEC 6-speed transmission. The body of the El Camino features some elegant touches like flush-mounted glass and a Redwood Burlwood bed.

Harold and Rhea Schrader’s 1939 Ford Sedan Delivery Rod Category Champion

Dan Wickett and the team at Hod Rod Construction created an amazing vehicle when they built “Delivered on Time” for Harold and Rhea Schrader. This 1939 Ford Sedan Delivery is a luxurious piece of rolling art that’s a treat to look at from any angle. Inside the Ford, you’ll find gobs of Zebra wood that adorn the cargo area, dash, and seats. There have been numerous body modifications made to the Ford, and under the hood, you’ll find a stout 5.7-liter Gen III Hemi engine. When you put the entire package together, you can see why Delivered on Time was selected as the ISCA’s Rod category champion.

Brad, Brady, and Codey Ranweiler’s 2022 ISCA Grand Champion 1963 Impala Wagon

The Ranweiler family put an epic amount of effort into their 1963 Impala Wagon, enough for it to be crowned the ISCA’s Custom category and overall Grand Champion for 2022. Every inch of this classic Chevy long top has been massaged to perfection.

The underpinnings of the wagon are anchored by a custom frame from Art Morrison Enterprises. In the rear, you’ll find a 9-inch rearend from Currie Enterprises that’s attached to the Impala via a triangulated 4-link suspension. The original 409 cubic-inch block that’s stationed under the hood of the wagon was punched out to 509 cubic inches and assembled by Show Cars Automotive. A Hilborn EFI system introduces oxygen into the engine and helps it produce 615 horsepower.

The Ranweiler family worked diligently to make their Impala look special. An assortment of PPG paint products covers nearly every surface of the vehicle, and what isn’t painted was chromed by Advanced Plating. Show Cars Automotive and Evod Industries created the one-off trim pieces you’ll find all over the car. The immaculate interior is from M&M Hot Rod Interiors and features parts from Dakota Digital.

Congratulations to the Ranweiler family on the ISCA’s 2022 Grand Champion award.

Our Favorite Rides From Cincinnati

Mark Arts went all out when he built his wild 1929 Model A rat rod. This Ford is not only slammed to the ground, but it also has a ton of really cool custom touches that give it a unique look. Arts used plenty of interesting materials to make his Model A stand out versus your typical rat rod. The trailer that Arts built to haul his drift trike is a neat touch and it fits the Ford’s overall theme perfectly.

Mark Hall’s 1972 Barracuda is the perfect example of what a Pro Street car should look like. This classic Mopar is wearing a killer paint job and has plenty of rear tire under it too. The blown Hemi that’s sticking out of the hood with a pair of carburetors on top is the icing on the horsepower cake. We love everything about Hall’s ride!

This 1988 Mustang LX owned by Nick Jansen has a Miami Vice vibe going for it and that sets it apart from the crowd. Under the hood there are no LSX shenanigans, Jansen has kept his Mustang Ford-powered. The wheel and tire package that Jansen opted to add to the Mustang gives it a road racing look.

There’s nothing better than seeing a tastefully built Road Runner at a show. Geromy Henson’s 1969 Plymouth Road Runner is a great example of what a tastefully built Mopar should look like.

John David Smith brought his gorgeous 1968 Ford Torino GT to the Cavalcade of Customs. Smith’s Torino is powered by a nasty 408 cubic-inch Cleveland engine that was built by the horsepower wizards at BES Racing Engines. Behind the big Ford engine is a 5-speed TREMEC transmission and 9-inch rearend. Billy Teegarden, Tome Baker, Willie Lewis, and Matt Roberts all got together to take care of the paint and bodywork for Smith.

Greg Huber's 1933 Ford known as “The Patriot” is the perfect mixture of horsepower and beauty. This street rod is powered by a 516 horsepower Viper V-10 engine and is backed by a TREMEC T-56 transmission. Spitzer Coachworks built this ride for Huber and packed it with all kinds of great custom touches.
