C8 Corvette Takes On A Lamborghini In A Drag Race

Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) has been keeping the internet entertained ever since they bought a C8 Corvette. They have lined the car up against Hellcat, Mustang GT500, and in this video, we get to see the C8 battle it out with an Italian supercar.

In the last video we watched, we were surprised at the performance of the C8 and how it held up to the much more powerful Hellcat Charger. The mid-engine ‘Vette left like a rocket ship due to the Charger’s lack of traction. But the question now is, will the C8 be a good match for a Lamborghini?

The 2020 Huracan starts at a hefty $212,266. That’s over three and a half times the base price of the mid-engine Corvette. Unlike the American V-8 in the C8 Corvette, a 5.2-liter V-10 powers the supercar and cranks out 602 horsepower at 8500 RPM. And at first thought, one might think that the mighty Huracan would walk all over the C8 because it’s a Lamborghini. After all, the Lambo makes 107 more horsepower than the factory Corvette and is lighter. The Huracan weighs in at 3,424 pounds, and the C8 comes in 223-pounds heavier at 3,647. One thing Hennessey fails to mention in the video, their C8 is not stock. It has an exhaust system, good for 20 additional horsepower bumping it to 510, and the car is equipped with Hoosier race tires.

As the two cars line up, the C8 rockets out of the hole, putting several car lengths on the Huracan in the first part of the 1/4-mile. While this looked like a repeat of the C8 versus Hellcat race, the Lamborghini was able to reel the Corvette in at the finish line. From a roll, it was more of the same. The C8 leaves hard, distancing itself from the Huracan only to get past the finish line again.

We wish this test would have been a little different. Anyone that has run a sticky tire knows the advantages they have on the street. However, the C8 is quick, especially for the price tag, and we are excited to see what it can do with some bolt-ons and tunning. It’s going to get interesting.
