Tech Tip With BP Automotive: Correctly Installing LS Coil Harnesses

We’ve all been there. You have everything torn down to get cleaned, repaired, or replaced. It’s time for reassembly, and you don’t remember exactly how something goes back together. In this tech tip with Bill Hillock, owner of BP Automotive, we will learn how to avoid one of the common problems when installing LS coil harnesses.

Correctly Installing LS Coil Harnesses

Some people can describe understanding electrical wiring in modern-day automobiles as needing an engineering degree to make sense of it. That’s where Hillock steps in. BP Automotive produces high-quality LS and LT swap harnesses and makes them here in the USA. BP Automotive’s slogan, “ EFI so EASY, even a CARB MAN can do it,” hints at their approach to producing swap harnesses that everyone can understand and install. So when it comes to wiring and common issues that people experience, Hillock has seen it all and has a solution or tip for you.

Keep It Simple

As Hillock points out, one common mistake when wiring LS coil harnesses is that everything plugs back in fine, but upon startup, the engine sounds like it’s misfiring or out of time. As Hillock explains in his video, the issue is typically caused by flipping the coil harness before plugging each individual coil in. He goes on to break down the color coding of the coil pack harness. Hillock explains that if you always remember, “red goes on the right,” the harness will be plugged in correctly. He continues by telling us that this tip is accurate regardless of which engine bank you’re dealing with.
