If you’re in the market for near-C7-Z06 level horsepower but in the form of a vehicle with the aerodynamic profile of a Waste Management garbage truck, then boy do we have the perfect car for you. How would you like to own a factory-appearing, late ’90s Chevrolet Tahoe with a 6.2-liter supercharged LS9 V8 engine under its hood?
That’s right, this 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe LT is no longer sporting a Vortec V8 under its hood; it’s now rocking some C6 ZR1 Corvette power, and it’s currently for sale on Bring A Trailer. The boxy Chevy SUV features more than a 638 horsepower mill, though, thanks to a Lingenfelter Performance Engineering supercharger pulley. According to the original ad, this four-wheel-drive example was purchased by the current owner with a mere 33,000 original miles.
Somewhere down the road, the decision to swap a nearly $26,000 crate engine into this Tahoe was made, and we’re definitely not mad about that. The work was completed between 2012-2013 by Titus Will Chevrolet in Olympia, Washington, with Wicked Fabrication in Auburn, Washington, providing the custom fabrication work, servicing and custom tuning.
Surprisingly, the Tahoe retains its four-wheel-drive system thanks to a robust 4L80E four-speed automatic transmission (which uses a TCI Automotive Maximizer torque converter and a forged flexplate) along with upgraded Level 5 half-shafts from The Driveshaft Shop. As far as upgrades are concerned, the Tahoe features a complete set of Baer brakes, Superlift lowering suspension on all four corners and a 35-spline Dana 60 rearend with a matching Eaton Detroit Locker rear differential.
