Most 13-year old kids these days are more interested in cellphones than cars. It’s a fact that fewer and fewer teenagers are signing up to get their driver’s license. But there is hope for the next generation, though it may take giving away more than a few cool cars to get the kids on board.
But at least one Nebraskan teenager has the trappings to become a successful “car guy.” 13-year old Jacob Krause recently entered the United Way Rubber Duck Dash, and out of 20,000 other rubber ducks, his rubber ducky proved to be the fastest. The Star Herald reports that Jacob’s prize is sure to be the envy of his classmates; a brand new Camaro convertible.
Because Jacob is just 13, his parents had to claim the prize. But Jacob could be driving as soon as next year, as Nebraska allows children as young as 14 to apply for a driving permit. Until then, he MAY let his brother and parents take the Camaro out for the occasional spin, though he plans to mostly keep it in his parent’s garage for now.
Jacob had bought a “Quacker’s Dozen” of rubber ducks just a day before the race, and just in time too. This was the first year that all 20,000 ducks were sold out. Other prizes included a Honda ATV, but of course everybody was hoping to win that Camaro. But there can be only one, and that one was 13-year old Jacob.
Does he have a great reason to get his driver’s license or what? No iPhone for this kid…just American muscle.
