Man Steals Rental Camaro, Leads Police On 150 MPH Chase

We’ve all heard the stories about the young guys who would go out every weekend, rent a high performance car of one kind or another, and beat the ever-loving piss out of it. It’s a nice story on its surface, though these days most rental agencies won’t even give you a car if you’re under the age of 25…and if they do rent you a car, you can bet it won’t be a very fast one.

KBTV reports that a 23-year old Seattle man circumvented the whole rental process by stealing a brand new 2012 Chevy Camaro SS right off of a Hertz rent-a-car lot, and you can guess what happened next. The high-speed chase reportedly began when police in Olympia noticed a crowd gathered around a new silver Camaro. The driver jumped in and took off, leading police on 50-mile chase along I-5 South at speeds of 150 mph or more. The chase only came to an end after the driver hit spike strips laid by officers.

This poor Camaro SS was barely broken in before a thief took her for a 150 mph joy ride

The driver of the Camaro lost control after hitting the spike strips, and drove the sports car off of the road. The driver was soon apprehended, and yet another Camaro SS is destined for the scrapyard. It just goes to show that any rental car agency dealing with fast cars is bound to attract more than a few miscreants…and it only takes one with the skills to hot-wire a car to cause an extreme level of chaos.
