Aesthetic modifications are really a matter of personal taste; whether or not your personal taste is good or bad remains to be seen. Modifications that deliver improved performance are rarely disputed when compared to the addition a new spoiler or “lambo” doors, both of which leave the door wide open (literally and figuratively) for your buddies to mock you. While LED lighting was once the domain of “ricers” it is merging into the mainstream thanks to LED taillights and headlights like those found on factory vehicles. Adding LED lighting to an older vehicle, like a 4th generation F-body, can be successful or a colossal mistake (remember LED valve stems?). During the daily search of YouTube for the weird and wacky, we happened upon an LED upgrade for the 4th generation Trans Am and Firebird owners.
A Trans Am owner took a sheet of clear Plexiglas, added a variety of LED lights and ended up with a side lit screaming chicken emblem for the license plate filler. With 18-orange and 18-red lights the owner demonstrates the color changes and blends of colors with a few clicks of what sounds like a remote. Combining the orange and red does give the screaming chicken a fiery glow, but it leaves an even bigger question: would this be considered “rice” or nice? In the end it is a matter of personal preference, but if your car is covered in stick-on items from WalMart then you may already know the answer.
