Texas Speed & Performance (TSP) is one of the largest and most well-known high-performance retailers in the LS and LT aftermarket. TSP sets themselves apart from the competition by priding themselves in their constantly growing expertise and product base. Now, they have brought in a brand new in-house camshaft grinding facility.
They are one of the very few companies that grinds their own camshafts and have put all their focus and resources towards this project to make it the success it is today. “Since we brought in the new Landis cam grinders, we’ve been able to do a lot of testing and development side-by-side on the engine dyno. So, in a 25-minute cam swap, you pull the cam out of that motor, you walk over to the grinder, you make a change to it, and you walk right back,” explains Jason Mangum from Texas Speed & Performance. “Being in-house, we can make a change almost instantly if we need to.”
This allows for even more fine-tuning to TSP’s already outstanding products– as they are working to alleviate common small issues such as the whistle from improper lobe finish, higher efficiency, and top notch quality control. Now, TSP’s camshafts are guaranteed to a tenth of a degree and they have almost completely eliminated all potential failure. The end result is more power, quieter operation, and longer valve train life. “It’s given us a lot of advantages– we’ve played with profile designs to eliminate a lot of valve train noise that people are associating with LS cars,” said Jason. “The power potential is just an absolute blast.”
