SEMA 2016: Heidts Soon To Release IRS For Fourth-Gen F-body

At this year’s 2016 SEMA show, Heidts, an industry-leading suspension company, announced that their fourth-gen F-body independent rear suspension (IRS) should be ready to ship by the end of the year. This comes as big news for any F-body fanatic that is concerned with doing more than driving in a straight line.

Heidts says that the new unit will be very similar to the third-gen F-body system they release late last year, with the exception of a three-inch wider track width and the addition of traction control and ABS provisions. However, the shorter third-gen variant could also be installed in the fourth-gens as well–which would allow for wider wheels and tires to be fit as long as the backspacing of the wheel is adjusted proportionally.

The fourth-gen system should make for a perfect product for either a daily driver or track car and is available in “standard” (rated up to 500 horsepower) or high horsepower (rated up to 800 horsepower) versions.

Each kit drastically improves handling and comes fully loaded with a Currie third member, upgraded CB shafts, and a choice of brakes. The base third-gen IRS comes standard with a C4 brake setup while Wilwood brakes are available as an upgraded option and the Wilwood four-piston calipers and rotors come standard on the high horsepower version. The fourth-gen unit, however, will provide customers with the option of either Wilwood or Corvette brakes. Each IRS is easy to install and will require some welding.
