Owning an old car can be a rewarding experience, if you’re willing to put the time and the effort in. Besides wrestling with primitive power steering systems (if you’re lucky enough to have one) and no emissions controls, many old cars simply don’t drive or handle as well as their contemporary counterparts. But there is no denying that cars like the 1969 Camaro Z/28 have style in spades.

Details are few on this car, though from what we can gather this is actually a ‘69 Camaro body modified to fit the 2001 Camaro frame. That must have taken a lot of time and a lot of work, though the mechanicals of this custom ride went largely untouched. Whoever did the work did a good job, bringing the 4th-generation Camaro back in time almost flawlessly.

Of course anyone who knows Camaros can point out plenty of problems with the conversion, but it would probably fool anybody who didn’t look inside at the obviously modern interior. With a LS1 V8 and an automatic transmission, this Camaro is definitely more cruiser than bruiser. But don’t get your hopes up for owning it; this unique car sold for $61,000 at this weekend’s Mecum auction in Houston. Better luck next time.
