GM is planning a big year for its flagship Chevy brand in 2013, spearheaded by the all-new Corvette C7. But there are other cars worth looking forward to in the Bowtie lineup, including the upcoming Chevrolet SS, a four-door performance sedan with a premium feel. It has been all but confirmed that the Chevy SS will be based on the Holden Commodore, which guarantees there will be some form of V8 engine under the hood.
That’s a good start, but what about an even hotter and faster version of the Chevy SS…say in the guise of a ZL1 model? Carscoop’s Josh Byrnes rendered just such a vehicle, giving us some well-informed speculative renderings of what a supercharged version of the 2014 Chevy SS might look like.
As with the Camaro ZL1, a Chevy SS ZL1 would utilize a heat-extracting hood. The hood would likely be made of aluminum or carbon fiber to save weight, and the Chevy SS ZL1 Edition would probably share several other exterior cues with its Camaro sibling.
Interestingly enough, Carscoop seems to have left a spoiler out of the equation, something we can’t really see GM doing. With a 580 horsepower LSA engine under the hood, a Chevy SS ZL1 would easily be capable of speeds high enough to warrant the necessity of a rear spoiler. True – this is just a rendering, but we’re pretty sure that if a supercharged version of the Chevy SS isn’t already in the works, it will be soon.
