2020 Corvette Orders May Get Bumped To 2021 Production

The online community called CorvetteForum.com just posted a letter that was reportedly sent out to all dealers that some 2020 Corvette buyers may wind up getting a 2021 production Corvette. In a letter titled, “Private Message: Corvette – 2020 Model Year”, all Chevrolet dealers who sell Corvettes were informed that due to an overwhelming response to the all-new 2020 Corvette, “it will be necessary to suspend the ability to create a sold order (SRE) beginning March 18, 2020.”

According to the letter, this does not prevent dealers from processing existing sold orders (SRE) within their allocation, nor creating and processing a normal stock order (TRE). The letter cites the C8’s delayed launch due to the 6-week work stoppage and the new car’s popularity as the reason for the reduced production schedule. The letter informs dealers that some of their 2020 orders, sold or stock, may not be produced as planned.

As one can imagine, replies on this thread focus mainly on whether or not customers will get the 2020 Corvette they ordered or be led into next year’s production. Other posts ranged from receiving a $5,000 rebate from GM if they are forced into the following year and whether or not the 2021 Corvette will be as valuable over time as a 2020 model year car might be. Only time will tell how each car will fare as a used vehicle but with the limited production thanks to strikes, mechanical issues and even a virus, the 2020 Corvette could turn out to be quite rare down the road!

According to the letter, Chevrolet plans to deploy 2021 Corvette ordering capability on Thursday, May 21, 2020, thirty days earlier than planned. The intent is to allow dealers and customers to create a replacement 2021 model year order instead of 2020.
