The C8 Corvette rumor mill is running at full throttle. Leaks from General Motors’ annual automotive conference in Las Vegas point to the arrival of both a 2027 Corvette Grand Sport and a new Grand Sport X, with the latter reportedly replacing the current E-Ray in the lineup.
What The Leaks Say
The information originates from an Instagram post by ZR1_M7, which Corvette Blogger says appears “to be backing up the rumors we’ve heard from our insiders.” According to those insiders, both the Grand Sport and the Grand Sport X will be introduced for the 2027 model year. The Grand Sport X, formerly known as the E-Ray, would carry over the all-wheel-drive hybrid system but pair it with the new LS6 V8.
The unconfirmed horsepower figure making the rounds puts the Grand Sport X at 720 horsepower. For context, the current Corvette E-Ray produces 655 horsepower. That bump would reportedly come from the new 6.7-liter LS6 V8 combined with a front-mounted electric motor. Some speculation points to the more powerful front motor from the ZR1X, rated at 186 horsepower, rather than the 160-horsepower unit used in the E-Ray.
The standard Grand Sport is expected to ditch the hybrid setup entirely and run the naturally aspirated LS6 V8 alone, with output rumored around 534 horsepower. That would slot it neatly between the base Stingray and the Z06 in the C8 hierarchy.
A Familiar Name Returns
The Grand Sport badge has a long and respected history on the Corvette. It appeared on the C4, C6, and C7, typically serving as the mid-level performance trim between the base car and the Z06. Its return has been anticipated for some time, and these leaks suggest it will bring more than just a nameplate. The Grand Sport X designation also aligns with GM’s naming convention established by the ZR1X, emphasizing the all-wheel-drive capability rather than the electrified powertrain.
GM has not made any official announcements, but leaks from these dealer meetings have historically proven accurate. If confirmed, the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport and Grand Sport X would be two of the most significant additions to the C8 lineup yet.
