Well into the 21st century, guerrilla marketing has become a sure-fire way to stoke anticipation for major debuts, whether automakers like it or not. Some leaks, like the Holden-based mule for the mid-engine Corvette, are intentional and valuable methods to build brand hype in the weeks leading up to an official debut. Other leaks, like equipment codes from internal documents ripped by rabid enthusiasts and astute salespeople, probably aren’t so deliberate or planned. Either way, there’s a brand new flame bluing the Corvette’s legend and fueling anticipation for GM’s newest V8 engine.
According to a Reddit post displaying a screenshot of GM’s own Vehicle Locator Service, the 2027 Corvette Stingray will debut GM’s highly anticipated LS6 V8. As you probably know, the new 6.7-liter (which translates to a coveted 409 cubic inches for us old heads) has already been all but confirmed in the upcoming C8 Grand Sport. While the revelation that this kit will also be fitted to the base Stingray seems like common sense, it is no less exciting.

In addition to text describing the car as a Corvette convertible, the Reddit screenshot lists the 1YC67 Regular Production Option (RPO) code that’s commonly associated with C8 Corvette convertibles. Even better, it also lists a 6.7L Gen 6 8-cylinder gasoline engine. Naturally, if the engine can be spec-ed in the Stingray convertible, it should also be available in the Stingray coupe.
Confirmation of the LS6 in the base Stingray hints that the 6.7-liter will likely replace the LT2 throughout the Corvette lineup–meaning not only a fresh V8 for Stingray and Grand Sport, but also E-Ray. Of course, GM has been plugging leaks almost as fast as the sea of Corvette fans finds them, so we probably won’t know for sure until the Detroit Auto Show. That’s when we expect Chevy to debut the new Grand Sport, the new LS6, or both.
