The safety features in new cars have become so redundant and overbearing that the bulk of most automobiles has increased by hundreds of pounds compared to their predecessors. For example, the 5th generation Camaro weighs in at almost 4,000 pounds, much of that weight devoted to structural rigidity and a whole mess of airbags.
However, We’re betting the driver of this Camaro is thankful for all those airbags though. Despite the nastiness of this particular crash, MLive.com reports that the driver of this fourth-generation Camaro survived after a terrible collision with a Dodge Avenger.
What exactly happened isn’t clear, but the Camaro driver was heading northbound near Holton Township, Michigan, when he crossed the center-dividing line into the southbound lane of M-120. He collided with a Dodge Avenger, and the two cars were absolutely shredded. As you an see from the pictures, the Camaro in particular is beyond totaled. Yet despite lacking the 5th generation Camaro’s many more airbags and 5-Star crash test rating, the driver of this 4th generation Camaro survived (albeit with serious injuries). Luck was on his side, and we wish him a speedy recovery…though there will be no second chances for that Camaro.
