The roots of hot rods can be traced back to southern California in 1930, where these modified cars were lined up and primarily raced on the lakebeds northeast of Los Angeles. When World War II was over, their popularity took off with service members and soldiers taking an interest in this particular hobby. After all, most of them had received technical training, and putting their new-found knowledge in car racing just seemed to make sense.

If we fast forward to modern times, some things have changed, but hot rodding is alive and well even in this present day. People are still swapping engines, modifying suspension components, and pushing the limits on factory production vehicles. Sure, it’s changed some due to technology, materials, and tools, but the idea has not.

Brian King is no stranger to this hot rod mentality. He is best known for his ProCharged LS-swapped Oldsmobile Cutlass and all-wheel-drive burnouts. One thing that people may not know about this car is that Brian made all of the carbon fiber body panels on the exterior and interior of the Cutlass. It’s safe to say that he enjoys building things out of the ordinary.

In Brian’s latest YouTube video, he shows us how to build a wheel out of clear epoxy. Now, you might be thinking, “Why would you build a wheel out of epoxy?” We had the same thought and had to check with Brian to get the answer. Brian explains, ” I built it just for fun. I enjoy challenging projects.” In the video, you can see the process it takes to make a wheel out of epoxy. After the wheel is finished, Brian bolts it on the AWD Cutlass and performs a monstrous burnout. Surprisingly, the experimental wheel lives as mounds of rubber smolder in the driveway.

Brian says that he has no plans to make any more epoxy wheels. He just wanted to see if one would work. When asked what he was working on next, he said, “That’s top secret.” We are just glad to see that hot rodding is alive and well in garages across the US.
