We are all too familiar with the rivalry between Camaros and Mustangs that has been ingrained in us for decades. We can thank the release of production and sales numbers for April 2011 for adding to the bantering between the opposing automotive enthusiasts. It looks like Chevrolet has taken this round of the battle, surpassing Ford Mustang sales by over 2,500 cars in April with the Camaro. Thanks to our friends over at Camaro5.com for bringing us the news.
In April 2011, a total of 10,852 Camaros were sold and delivered, surpassing the number of Camaros produced that month by 2,743 vehicles. These sales increased the total of Camaros sold in 2011 to 30,824. Mustang sales in April 2011 reached 8,180 cars, trailing behind their Camaro competitor by 2,672 cars. While this difference in sales is significant, Dodge fell way behind with Challenger sales only reaching 3,617 cars in April.
With Chevrolet’s recent release of the Camaro convertible and the ZL1 set to release for the 2012 model year, we can only hope that Camaro sales will increase . To the dismay of Ford fans, we may see the trend of Camaro sales continuing to surpass Mustang sales in the future. Mustangs have had the leg up against the Camaro for the last eight years due to their continual presence in the market since the 1964 ½ model year. However, with increasing Camaro sales and more trim packages set to release, it seems that Camaros are succeeding in the muscle car market once again, taking their position at the top of the rivalry.
