Our friends over at Vortech Superchargers have teamed up with ARK Performance this year for the 2014 Formula Drift series, and they have some pretty sweet tricks up their sleeve.
The weapons of choice for ARK’s newly announced motorsport team are two Hyundai Genesis coupes which have obviously been highly modified. One of the coupes is said to produce 1,000 horsepower and the other is said to be making a healthy and respectable 700. The car we are most interested in out of the two is of course the one rated at 1,000 HP – not only because of the high horsepower numbers, but because it’s got one of GM’s coveted LS7 engines in its chest cavity.
The LS7 in the “AR1,” piloted by Dennis Mertzanis, has been bumped up to a 7.2L and with the use of a Vortech V-7 YSi supercharger, it is making 1,000 hp and 900 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels. The second Genesis Coupe, the “AR7”, which will be manhandled by Patrick Mordaunt, uses Hyundai’s 3.8L Lambda V6 which has been punched out to 4.0L and utilizes a turbocharger.
The 2014 Formula Drift season is going to be exciting because almost every team is using an LS or some other V8 engine now. We look forward to heading out to Long Beach, California on April 5th to check out the first event of the season – it’s always a good time.
And if you really can’t wait until the first event to see ARK’s new Genesis Coupes, they will be officially revealing the cars on Formula Drift’s tech day, which is scheduled for March 15th and takes place at Source Interlink Media’s tech center in Irvine, California.
