It may be hard to believe, but it’s been over ten years that the last Pontiac Firebird rolled off of the assembly line. We were more or less promised that the Firebird name would return “in the near future,” but it never happened – for a number of obvious reasons.
Here we are today with many tuner companies releasing their versions of what their idea of what a modern Trans Am should be, while many enthusiasts still stand their ground that the last Trans Am was, and for the foreseeable future, will always be a 2002 model.
You can find them all over eBay and many of the other classified websites, but they are making occasional appearances at Barrett-Jackson auctions all over the country. We found this 2002 Collector’s Edition WS6 posted on the Barrett-Jackson website this morning, and it makes us want to head to Scottsdale, Arizona, this coming January to place a bid on this machine ourselves.
It really is that clean – it only has 3,200 miles on the odometer – barely over one oil change! Behind the 325hp LS1, sits the factory installed T-56 gearbox. According to all of the pictures that we have of this car, it appears to be 100% totally stock – rare in itself these days.
In fact, this car is so unmolested, that the CE side decals have yet to be installed on the body. Based on the condition of the rest of the car, we’re assuming that it’s still wearing it’s original 275/40ZR/17 Goodyear Eagle rubber. We’re also beginning to wonder if it ever has had any of it’s fluids changed. With less than 2,000 of these being produced in convertible form, it’s sure to be a true collector’s item – exactly like the name suggests.
